whistling noise at idle
Today it was about 5 degrees out side. When i went to start my car after it sat outside for three hours or so it made a whistling noise. It went away one I accelerated past idle. It came back however when I stopped or slowed down. Ive done some research and I thought it was the turbo but its nothing near the engine it seems to be in the middle to back part of the car. Any ideas? o and its a 2003 1.8 with 98k on it.

I got a chance to further inspect it. Its coming from below the passenger side rear door. Its kind of a hissing/whistling sound. It stops after 2000 RPMs. but from 700 or 800 idle it doesnt get any louder when you accelerate to 2000. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks |
rear passenger side? fuel filter/pump.
better change the filter asap (part is about $40) cause it might brake your pump ($300). |
I was thinking its that.

while the two previous diagnostics are most likely the more accurate of your options; I would also recommend checking your exhaust piping for cracks or holes. Based on the sound you heard its most likely your fuel filter, but historically, Audi is known just as much for their tricky engineering as they are for their superior design attributes.
Good luck! |
i fixed it and it was the fuel filter. It was $58 from the dealer ship and $52 from the foreign parts store and I would have had to wait to get it. I changed it very easily and thanks for every ones comments
