2006 a4 2.0t timing belt
My 2006 A4 has 75k miles on it and the dealer says my timing belt needs to be replaced.
the estimate is $1,400. Does this make sense? Should't a major engine component last longer than 75k miles? This car has been babied and rarely goes over 2000 rpm.

75k miles is about right for a new timing belt.....they can last up to 100,000 but if your timing belt breaks you don't have an engine anymore....the valves will fall into the combustion chamber and pistons will slam them against the top of the engine...thus....no more engine....ever....at all.....non repairable....
so you gotta ask yourself....is 1,750 worth it for your a4 to carry on for another 75,000 miles?

This morning I made an appointment to get the belt replace this Tuesday. Then later this afternoon the service advisor at the dealer called and said that my 2006 with the 2.0TFSI engine does not need the belt replaced until 110,000 miles. He said that on 10/27/08 Audi USA sent them a revised maintenance schedule for 2006 Audi cars which shows the revised mileage for my car. He faxed this over to me today. The 2006 A4 convertibles with the 1.8T engine will still need the belt replaced at 75,000 miles.

The copy I got was poor quality small print. I had to enlarge it 200% on the copy machine to read the portion that applied to my car. When I go to the dealer on Tuesday I will try to get an original to send you.
