B7 Auto trans fluid replace? When?

Talking to a mechanic, he says you need to change out the fluid/filter on the Audi Auto tranny's otherwise they'll blow on you at 100-125K. This was in reference to B5/B6 cars.
I am assuming they've improved them over the years.
That being said, when is the time to replace the filter and fluid on the Auto transmission?
What's that usually run at an indy shop?

Can you change at home easily (accessable opening?) and do you need a VAG com tool to check the levels like the older 1.8's?

Danke!

dude stealship did mine at 35k and and just recently at 75k...not cheap to do so find any audi mechanic or knowledgeable friend. see if the mechanic will come over to your house to do at it a cheaper rate with the right fluid.

Auto trans fluid

Hey, what did the dealership charge you for it?
I'll use that # to compare to what a good indy shop is asking.
Thanks

I have a 2008 A4 2.0T Quattro. I just recently had my transmission fluid replaced because of a mishap at a service center (Non-dealership)

They told me that I should not replace the fluid because it is "Lifetime Fluid"
Bullshit, I don't believe in life time fluid. I bought the fluid from the parts counter, and I knew someone who worked in parts so he gave it to me at cost. which wasnt bad. So I payed the fee + Labor to get it done. They did the service at 90k miles with no warranty. Never been replaced before. Car runs smooth :)

I'm at 151,000 and never touched fluid, and never plan to unless it becomes a problem.
