Default bad coil packs/iginition coils

Ok the word is these do go bad ...
besides the obvious, those that look fried, is there a simple way to test on them?
Thanks,

Your car will run like ****. You will get an Engine light. You will know when one is bad. It is a recall item and can be fixed for free before they fail. Call the dealer and run your VIN.

I had one fail with a minor miss with lack of power and Engine light. I had another fail and the engine was completely on 3 cylinders and I had to give full throttle and it took about 30 seconds to get to 60. Bucking hard the whole way.

Either way it was not a sneaky problem but well presented.

I have not heard back from Audi, New plugs put in and coils tested just fiine, Crap, spark plugs are expensive on these suckers, Of course i shouldn't be too surprised about that.

Also, for those interested, my local Audi dealer informed me that my model year 2005.5 2.0T coil packs are not on the recall list.

That is not accurate. Mine was actually a 2005.5 and mine were done under recall. Some dealers are very shady. Some also only want to replace as they fail when they can do all 4. See what Audi says about your vin or try calling a couple dealers to reference.

From what I have read it was nearly all Audi and VW models and years for about a 10 year period were covered. You can see why they would try to lie, thats a lot of cars in for free service.

You are correct my man, I just got a response from Audi USA who sent me the following:

This letter will accompany me to my local AUDI dealer

Dear Mr. Hohmann:

Thank you for contacting Audi of America with your inquiry about the J1 Ignition Coil service campaign on your 2005 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. I am in receipt of your e-mail. As such, please accept this written response.

I understand that you are seeking to know if the J1 Ignition Coil campaign is still active. Audi of America does indeed have in place an Ignition Coil campaign. As with any campaign or service action, there is a range of vehicles that this action would cover. I have researched your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and found that your vehicle was produced within the production parameters for this campaign. However, I do show in our database the J1 Ignition Coil campaign has been completed on this vehicle. If you are currently experiencing concerns, I recommend contacting your local authorized Audi dealer for further inspection as our dealers have the trained staff, resources and tools to formally diagnose your vehicle. If the concern is related to the Ignition Coils, there is a Spare Parts Replacement warranty of 12 months/12,000 miles whichever occurs first from the date the campaign was completed.

Based on your zip code, I show the closest dealer as Michael Audi located on 6061 North Blackstone Avenue Fresno, CA 93704. Please contact them for additional questions regarding the J1 Ignition Coil campaign and when it was completed. Michael Audi can be reached at +1 559 431 6000.

Mr. Hohmann, I hope that this information does alleviate any concerns that you may have related to the J1 Ignition Coil campaign. You are a valued member of the Audi family and your inquiries are of importance to us. If you have any further questions or requests, please contact your local Audi authorized dealer or Audi Customer Relations at +1 877 615 2834, extension 43024, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday-Friday Eastern Standard Time.

Sincerely,

Danielle Kellogg

I have now had 4 (all of them) ignition coil packs replaced at Audi. The last and most recent cost me $50. total; the 3 previous were no charge

Buy new ones, they're cheap

If you feel really adventurous, get the whole ignition kit
