Bang for the Buck
I'm interested in increasing the power of my 3.2 and wouldn't mind an increase in MPG along the way if possible. In the opinion of experienced owners, what would be the best bang for the buck as an initial upgrade investment? I'm not altogether familiar with my options just yet and would hate to spend money on an upgrade when a different upgrade would have been a better value. The feedback is appreciated.

I'm not wholly familiar with the aftermarket of the 3.2, but if its anything like the 2.8, which I would expect it would be, there's not a lot you can do for power or MPG that isn't going to cost several thousand dollars. A chip on a naturally aspirated v6 does about as much for power gains as an air intake, which is next to none as the stock intake has been well proven to flow enough air to support close to 400hp. The v6 was, as I understand it, designed to be wholly reliable and nothing else. There are select few upgrades available, but the cost to gain ratio isn't really worth it in my honest opinion. If you're willing to shell out the cash, by all means do, but if you're on a budget, its not worth saving up for. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks very much for the feedback. This is very helpful and saves me spending money that will provide little to no real improvement. I'm not disappointed in the end since this approach costs nothing and the car moves plenty fast when all is said and done. Thanks.

Agreed. The 2.0T is more suited for tuning, but overall reliability lies with the 3.2.
Forgot to say welcome to AF in your previous thread! |
Hey thanks for the welcome. I'm really looking forward to putting all this information to use. I've been an Audi fan for a long time, but this is the first I've owned. It really seems like a good crowd here.

I would buy a Tornado / Cyclone intake insert. Upgrade the muffler bearings to high flow low rattle ones.
lol. Joking. The info seems spot on given. Anything you may invest in will be super expensive an yield virtually no result on the 6 cyl model. I save my bang for the buck on strippers. |
Hey, thanks for the confirmation Kris. I appreciate it.

you could get a custom exhaust done. shop quotes...shouldnt be too expensive.
carbon clean k & n drop in filter custom exhaust should improve mpg slightly and might add a couple ponies |
What would you recommend to clean the carbon? Also when you say shouldn't be too expensive, what are we talking?
