Can you replace your visor with a garage opener visor?

Hi all,

Just curious if you can replace your standard sun visor with a sun visor that includes the garage opener, using simple plug and play?

Thanks!

bump - anyone have info on this? or should I post in a different thread?

I don't think it is a simple plug and play. I looked into this some time ago and can not remember for sure, but I think you had to buy the wiring and tranmitter to get it all to work.

Thanks, you are probably right. Second choice option was to look for a bluetooth phone car system with a built in garage opener. Nice.

Yep the transmitter is in the front left bumper, so there is wiring, and likely something in the computer than needs to be turned on. Already had the transmitter go bad once. It developed a crack, and all the winter moisture got in shorting it out.

Always wished I could figure out a way to get it to work using one of the fake buttons by the radio. Imagine if I was talented enough I could figure out a way. I found that my opener sits nicely in the ash tray holder (ash tray removed).

i keep mine clipped inside the driver's door pocket. Just reach down and hit it.

Don't mess with electrical harness/wiring unless you don't mind losing warranty coverage on at least the electrical system in car. Once a mechanic documents a change/intrusion in the electrical system wiring, you can be at a significant disadvantage.

The above is subject to much interpretation, but the dealer (?mechanic?) makes the final decision.

2006 so I am out of warranty anyway....

but rhodes nice idea! that would rad to have a blank button be the garage door. seems like a simple concept since my remote control garage opener is the size of a small keyfob, why not make a button style instead that pops in?

You could wire it to one of these and bring in da funk every time you come home for the day.
