center console removal

ok so i want to remove the center console to be able to mount a remote bass controller. i got an amp and subs installed yesterday and would like to know how to tear down the center console before i start hacking it apart. the bass controller will fit where the ashtray is (under the flip top in front of the shifter) so i want to mount it in there for a clean/hidden look. the cable obviously comes from the trunk so id like to run it thru the whole center console and mount it in the ashtray. that being said, can anyone point me towards a DIY article or offer any tips? i did find a DIY that said to take out the radio and HVAC controls in order to remove the pop-up cover/ashtray but i dont have the radio removal keys so i hope there is another way.

thanks

Great question. This video is for installing the speck dock, but shows how to take apart the whole front console area:

thanks for the good video. does the HVAC control unit actually cover the back part of the ash tray? could i just remove the shifter cover and get to the 8mm screws? how would you do that on an automatic? id also like to remove the armrest and cupholder pieces and all the junk so i can run the cable under that and have the knob mounted in the ashtray.

these are great questions:

1. the plate around the auto transmission shifter is attached by tabs. You can take it off without removing anything else (I did) to get at the screws. Gently pry in an upward motion starting with the ashtray side.

2. I'm not sure if it is completely necessary to take out the HVAC unit. I took it out to allow for space while working with the wires.

As for the rest, I never tried, so I don't know.

i thought you might be able to pull that plate off but i didnt wanna start pullin and snap something lol

i guess ill just have to look at it closer and see what screws and stuff i can find.
