Default fault code question

Have a 2006 A4 2L - CVT/FWD.

Engine light came on and the garage said it was 0456 and 000A. Do these mean anything to any of you or where can I find a listing of the codes. They also said that changing the fuel filler cap may solve the problem. Also a can controller. Make sense? What's involved with the camshaft controller?

Any help appreciated.

Default fault code question

Power train diagnostic codes start with a "P". So let's assume that your mechanic just did not use the "P" when advising you of the power train diagnostic codes that he obtained from an OBD II code reader.

The P0456 code = EVAP Emission Control System Leak Very Small. It is possible to obtain this code if your fuel filler cap is defective as noted by your mechanic.

The 000A code...as far as I know, this is not a valid code. Specifically, the "A" is not valid. There are valid codes P0001 through P0009. I would ask your mechanic to verify this code reading.

Fault Code 000A may be an intermittent fault code - signal too low. Google the code and this is the description that comes up. I'm not sure which signal the code is referring to though. Sometimes low signals are due to low battery voltage or corroded signal pins where voltage drop occurs due to resistance increase in the connector interface where corrosion occurs.

Auto Zone, if you have these in your area will do free code checks if the mechanic you went to charges a fee.
