Locking fuel door

Locking fuel door
Just purchased a 2007 quattro ....the fuel door does not lock. The switch retracts the black plastic rod but it doesn't seem to come out far enough to
engage the the fuel door latch. Is it adjustable , what does the small brass strip do ? Currently the door closes flush to the quarter panel .
Thanks for your help.

hmmm, on my new '06 A4 2.0T 6MT I have the opposite problem, it's locked, and when unlocked, it doesn't really stick out far enough to get a finger behind the door to open it. Might be a similar adjustment issue? It too is flush when closed.

Mine doesn't open very much when I pop it, but if you push just to the right of the hinge with a finger it opens rather easily.

UPDATE :
The fuel door was missing the black plastic latch that engages the lock button. Picked up a new one for $1.47 at the dealer and all is well.
For the door that doesn't pop out enough ....you should see a piece of spring metal that the latch pushes against when the door is closed.
The latch compresses the spring metal which in turn pushes the door out when the lock id released. Try adjusting the piece of spring metal.
