Looking to buy an Audi
Hey guys-
Glad to be here. Was wondering if I could get some input about some subtle mods that you could do to a 2007 Audi A4 Quattro 2.0T. Im looking to buy one. Was wondering whats the way to go with transmission. Im used to driving a manual but Im trying to get a little more practicle (girlfriend friendly) and gettting an auto. Does the auto tranny hold up well?
Im looking to do some subtle mods that make the car more reliable. Not necissarily super fast. Heres what I want. I need you guys (since you've been around the block) to give me some suggestions!
FMIC - nothing huge. something that replaces those tiny side mounts. Saw garrett has a nice kit but its rather pricey.
Exhaust - classy german power rumble. I dont want it loud by any means but a deep growl when I get on it would be pleasent.
would changing the intake help gas mileage? if so, i saw carbino or whatever. good idea?
downpipes - saw ATP turbo has one. would this make the car loud and annoying since the cat is gone?
APR ecu - what about Chipped ECU's in these cars? Im looking to keep my warranty.
I appreciate any input on some brand names and suggestions for and against some of these. if you have some suggestions on subtle mods please say
Thanks guys!

Hey man, welcome. I have an auto and I like it alot-wife friendly too. If I feel like shifting I use the tiptronic. I used to be a big fan of standard transmissions but it sucks for city driving. The transmission is great, you don't even feel the shifts.
The only change I would make is to get the Milltek high flow cat and cat back exhaust. That'll increase the power by around 10 HP I heard. The exhaust note is not like a trumpet sound you hear from the wannabe ricers. You can check out the sound clip on the Milltek site.
Intakes don't do anything for this car. Save your money.
A downpipe would be loud and very white trash for such a beautiful car.
I'd stay away from chips. Just a personal choice. I'm more than happy with the power from my stock 2.0T. I used to have a highly modified and tuned car way back in the day and I learned to never "upgrade" the engine. It was a rough idle and rough ride quality in general-even though the power increased alot from stock. The Audi's come from the factory without bottlenecks in the engine-which explains the relatively small aftermarket, compared with other makes.

Can I get some input on upgraded Front Mount Intercoolers? Was looking at a slighly better design. Nothing too big. The garrett one looked nice and simple

Sorry, no intercooler info, but a search should turn up something because I know there a quite a few out there. My understanding is that only a couple actually "bolt" right up without serious cutting-n-such.
I've had my B7 for just under 3 months, and do at least want to offer a warning (I'll get flamed, I'm sure.) The Audi is not a cheap car to maintain, and the US dealer support seems to have a reputation of being one of the worst in the industry. Depending on options, common expense items include $900 fuel pumps(or worse, a $3000 pump/camshaft replacement). $1200 OEM HID headlights (that's each).
Early 2.0L B7's (05.5 and 06) have some expensive problems Audi refuses to acknowledge (the cam/pump issue, and excessive oil consumption to name just two) but I think the 07s are pretty much beyond that. The CVT transmission seems to be a very hated option, so be wary there. I have the Tip and like it for my environment. The manual seems a popular choice, and quite solid overall.
Study the options youare getting, because I see a lot of people spending money to install what they did not get. (Bluetooth and Nav seem to be a popular but spendy thing everyone wants AFTER they get the car. Best to get one with it already...
There is a start for you. Lurk the forums before plunking down the cash. There are a lot of A4 for sale out there, so don't leap thinking you lucked across the best one ever by only looking at one.
Check out the S-line series, as it has many popular options as well.
