Looking for a part of my armrest...do you have it by any chance?
I recently got in my car on a cold day (not sure if the weather is relevant) and popped open my arm rest only to end up holding the opening mechanism in my hand, the plastic piece had snapped off and could not be repaired. Does anyone know where I can get one (that answer can be specific or a suggestion, don't care, e.g. http://www.audiarmests.com or 'maybe a junk yard, i had luck there')? Do I have to buy the whole door? Whats the part number? Is it a difficult install? Of course the dealership says its some absurd cost to fix this little piece which I can't bring myself to pay. While you're here, I might as well ask something that's been bothering me: I have a gray leather-looking interior, is this the "platinum" color? Do you know, from the dearth of information I've given you, if its actually leather or leatherette? Thanks in advance for your tme and expertise!

I had that happen on mine as well. It was like $80 for a brand new arm rest lid. They just had to match the color up to my interior, and I was good to go. You don't need any tools to remove the old one or install the new one. You simply flex the lid a bit, and it pops right out where the hinge is held.
Did you get the part at a dealership? I got an estimate and it was ridiculous, but they may have just been trying to discourage such a small repair. Is there a way for me to find out what the color of my interior is called?
I went to my local dealer, and they hooked me up. They actually had it in stock.
I don't think there's a real answer to the interior color question. Audi only does a few different leather colors, so it's pretty easy to pick. Your best bet would be to physically remove the lid itself and carry it into the dealer with you and say "I need this."
It really was a quick fix. Just flex the hinge and it comes right off.

Take the 2 little rubber bumpers off of each corner near where the piece of plastic broke off. Scissor cut four little pieces of velcro to each of the flat plastic corners. 17 cents of velcro and your done. More than enough tension to keep it closed when in the upright postion.
