minimum oil level light?
I bought an Audi 3.2 A4 wagon about 4000 miles and three months ago from a dealer in KY. The oil level light just came on, which I thought was weird though I had heard that the 2.0's burn oil. Since this is under warranty for service, does the dealer take care of this for free or since I am not at my 35,000 service interval do I just get an oil change from an independent?
Thanks. Yale |
You don't need an oil change just because the light came on, you just need to add a quart of oil. Mobil 1 and Castrol Syntec are fairly common and meet VW 502 oil standards.

I just thought since I live in NYC that the car does have to deal with a lot of sitting at lights and rocketing to the next one. So not a lot of highway miles but a lot of wear.

nyc is going to wear ur engine out real fast i know what u mean....def get another oil change maybe one every 3,500 miles because city driving is just so hard on engines the stopping and going and whatnot really takes a toll on the engine
and espcially if ur speeding to catch the next green (believe me i know what u mean alll too well) then chances are ur car will be revving higher then average and you will burn more oil at faster rate i would get an oil change and also keep a quart of oil handy with you in the trunk just in case u need to top off because the turbo runs very hot and it will drink your oil |
Thaks 3.2 though no turbo.

bahahaha to be fair i did post that reply at 6 30 am cuz i couldn;t sleep hahahahahahahaha
sorry bout that |
on a related note...
My min oil light just went on today.
Is there an oil level sensor that detects the oil level is low. Or (the much worse scenario) does the light come on when when there's no oil pressure because the sump is sucking air? |
sensor tells u that the oil is low, if the sump was sucking in air you'd throw a CEL
|
guys be sure to use a good synthetic oil that meets the VW 502 requirements. especially if you do alot of stop and go driving in high temperature climates. i use nothing but mobil 1 0W-40. no CEL, no low oil level. stay away from the wal-mart brand conventional oil.

I just bought a CPO 2007 A4 with the 2.0L turbo. It had just under 30K miles when purchased and now has 33K. I had to put a quart of oil in after 1500 miles and again today. The dealer claims that typical consumption for this car is a quart every 800 - 1000 miles. That seems crazy to me that a car would be designed to burn that much oil, turbo or not. It's a mix of city and highway driving. This is my first Audi, is this considered normal as the dealer claims?
