My engine blew and needs to be replaced
Hey guys, my Audi's 2006 A4 2.0 engine blew, and I need to replace it.
The stealership is quoting me $10,000 but I see used engines on eBay for 2500-3000. How much do you guys think it would cost in labor to replace the engine? And where should I get it done? Is there anything in specific I should be aware of while doing this, or is it really just as easy as buying a replacement engine, shipping it to wherever I'm getting it installed, and having them put it together?
Any advice/info/tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have only done this with an older GM car and we found the motor at Oriley's and had it sent to the shop where it was fixed. I would go to a few local shops and get some quotes and ask them if shipping the motor to them is the way to go.
Hey Blue, I like the stance of your car----is it stock--looks lowered--by how much?
How did you achieve this? Springs? Coils?
By the looks of the rims it doesnt look like an S-LIne with the larger rims.
Can You PM me the answer?
Thnaks in advance guy!

i think the average labor hour for german cars is 85-150 an hour, i think they all use alldata system (which tells them the level of diffuculty i.e: A, B,C, and how many labor hours they should charge) my advice is make friends with the people at the dealership, it helps in the long run...
The caution on any used engine or refurbished engine is that you really don't know the history. Why is it being sold to begin with and have they really fixed all of the problems. When we junked my Honda, the junk yard pulled the engine and I am assuming that they were selling it as a refurbished engine. I had a ton of problems, so I am assuming the guy buying that engine will be disappointed.
The regular eBay cautions exist, buy from a real parts dealer, look them up, call the shop. They will ship to the shop and for sure that is way to go.

An engine off of ebay or a junkyard motor....? You must not like your car very much. You will not find a "quality" used motor anywhere...
Your two best options is new from the dealer or find a company that sells reman long blocks.
The labor should be roughly 20 hours...
I had a 90's toyota.... Needed a motor. I put two used engines in it and both of them didn't last more than 6 months. The price of two i could have bought a remanufactured one. I ended up cutting my loses and getting rid of the car

The 10K figure included installation I'm sure. Just the reman Audi engine sold through us runs 4218.75 plus core which you get back in almost all cases. Plus shipping to you and from you back to us. I'm just trying to help, but with retail on the engine at 4500.00 the difference between that and 10K seems like a lot for installation.
The engine is complete, you just transfer intake and exhaust manifolds and alternator from old to reman engine.
Obviously as you guys will point out it's pointless to ship an engine back and forth when the retail isn't much more than the selling price. But I wonder what the quote was for the engine?
