OEM or aftermarket parts?

OEM or aftermarket parts?
My wife's '06 A4 Avant 2.0T is coming due for the timing belt service and I'm wondering if it's worth going with Genuine Audi parts or having another shop do it with aftermarket parts? Dealer estimated $1500, and I got a shop quote for $850. Can there be that much difference?
Any and all help and suggestions are appreciated.

You can save yourself a lot of money by going aftermarket. Most parts that are "Genuine Audi" are actually manufactured by someone else they just get branded "Genuine Audi" so they can mark them up.
We source a lot of our parts from those manufactures so you don't have to pay a premium and still get the same quality.
Check out our timing belt kits below.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Jason. I figured the parts would most likely be the same with some re-branding going on. Do you wholesale to the aftermarket shops, (ie Napa, APC), or are you direct to customer. Only reason I ask is the shop quote I got had a picture of a kit that resembles yours and was $350ish Canadian.

What's the name of the shop? I can look it up to see if it's someone we distribute to.

ecs tuning is your 1-stop-shop for everything audi,
its the way to go.
beach wagon, 2 main reasons i personally like them, is they do both oem and aftermarket parts and most of the time u have brand/price options..
they're the most popular place in the audi community to shop.
figured i chime in as im not an employee nor in any way affiliated with them.

Thanks NHolzschuh, it's good to hear. Now that the kms are getting up there, I know there will be more and more to be done and I usually like to stick with one source for parts.

Did both places say they are replacing the same parts? When Audi replaces the belt, all pulley's, guides, and the water pump is replaced too. If the other place only replaces the belt, and not everything else that could explain the price difference.

B7Night, the shop did replace all of the same parts that Audi was going to, belt, guides, water pump, etc. They also serviced the engine and it was still $600-$700 cheaper than Audi quoted just to do the belt service, and that was taxes in. The biggest difference I think is that Audi wanted the car for at least 2 days saying it was going to be 8-11 hours worth of work, and the shop I took it to quoted me 4, and they had it everything done in a day.

Seems like some dealerships really over-estimate the labor times. I had mine quote me 1.5 hours for the trunk latch--something which I did in about 45 minutes knowing NOTHING about how to get to it. They also quoted me 3 hours for the thermostat while the shop I ended up taking it to did the thermostat and oil change in less than that (and the final cost for both was less than just the thermostat at the dealership). I know they have to make money, too, but sheesh!
