Default Oil Consumption Issues

Hey everyone,

This is my first post here and had a question about oil consumption.

I have an 08 A4 2.0T 56,000 miles

I got an oil change about a month ago (roughly 700 miles) and got the oil level low light. I figured the place where I got the oil changed didn't fill it up enough, so I added a quart of synthetic and it went to full. a week later I get the light AGAIN! Check the oil level and it is at Min. again. I have no leaks or anything and I am at a loss. I've seen this issue in other forums, but without much of an answer if Audi is actually doing anything about it or not.

Any information or confirmation would be helpful.

Thanks,
Matt

Sounds like it could be another piston ring issue.: Remove your oil cap with the engine running & see if it can be removed easily , if not could be a bad crankcase vent valve. If it's a valve it is a simple fix.

Contact your dealer & see if it is covered.

Is this a new car to you? Did the oil consumption just start? Audi advertises that acceptable oil usage is between 1000-1500 miles. I would suggest that you take the car to the dealer and ask them to do an oil consumption test. Based on the result you will get an idea on what your next step is. Mean while carry a few quarts of oil in the trunk.

Definately check the PCV valve. Although that seems like rather high consumption for a bad PCV valve. Something else might be going on.

Default Oil Consumption

Sounds like my story. I also have on 08 with about 55,000 miles. I bought the car from the dealer as a CPO...thank goodness. I had to put in 2 quarts before the first oil change. The dealer did an oil consumption test and the car failed, so they replaced the piston rings.

This was a couple of months ago, and I haven't had a problem with oil consumption since. The whole thing didn't cost me a dime. I'm not sure if that's because I was under CPO warrenty or not. I have to say that Audi and the dealer were good about it, you just have to go through the process.

Are you under warrenty? Either way, good luck.

Wow, I thought my oil consumption was bad. I get the low level light at 3,000 miles.

Funny thing is some of the 2.0t engines use some don't. My 2006 has almost 84,000 miles and never uses a drop between it's 5000 mile oil changes. The new TFSI in the B8's, seem to have an issue using oil from what I've heard.

Well, thanks for all of the help and advice!! Finally got it worked out.

Took it to Circle Audi in Long Beach, CA (highly recommended), they were very helpful and nice.

They did an oil consumption test and wound up replacing the crankcase valve and turbo pipe with updated parts. They also noticed that my intake manifold motor and manifold runner needed to be replaced. They replaced it for free when it was out of warranty! On top of that, they replaced the fuel pressure sensor, and PRV!

Thanks again for all of the help!

Matt
