Default Radio Differences

Hey guys

Just got an 06 A4 and have a few questions about the sound system. I just spent a while searching and didn't find what I wanted to know.

I have a symphony/bose stereo with the 6 disc and tape deck. I think it's a Symphony II

I've seen Symphony decks that have a larger screen/ no tape deck. Symphony II+ maybe?

other than the tape deck, what is the difference between these two radios?

if I got the one with the larger screen, would it be plug and play with my harness? would I still have steering wheel control functionality?

Also do either of these play mp3's?

Thanks!

The II+ plays MP3 cds. I do not know if they are plug and play.

I'd go with a Sat Nav unit. That way you will gain an Aux input for Ipod or MP3 plug ins. Ebay has some nice units cheaper than a stock unit that look factory. I would not change it for a similar unit.

Are you talking about the RNS-E?

I don't know about interchangeability, but I have the exact same radio (Symphony tape+6 disc+SAT+Bose) and easily added a DICE i-Audi-r iPod adapter to mine. I don't ever use the radio for anything other than my iPod. The DICE adapter tricks your head unit into thinking it's a CD Changer, so you can still use the steering wheel controls (the left one will advance to the next/prev song). No iPod text on screen, but I don't care. I navigate the iPod with the scroll wheel on the iPod.

I would imagine the wiring harness would be the same and the radios would be interchangeable. I guess I'll just have to find out for myself and check the classifieds to see if I can pick up a II+ for cheap.

UPDATE

Found a II+ on eBay for cheap. Got it in the mail and it does have a different plug on the back.

After much MUCH searching and scouring, I found a site that sells harness adapters. http://www.euro-parts.us/

I had to order the harness adapter and the radio antenna adapter. Cool guys, shipped fast and cheap.

Hooked everything up and I'm good to go.

I love the II+. I also got a DICE ipod kit, everything works great. I'm happy
