Default Some Tiptronic questions

Hi guys,

Always drove an automatic, am one of those who want to keep one hand
free for other things, like eat on the way to work :-)). Never thought much of
using the tip all these days, wasn't one of the reasons I got the A4 either. But
was bitten by the manual bug recently, damn, should have got one.

Want to use the tip more. Have some "tiptronic for dummies" queries:
1. Is it OK to use the tip more - I mean, is it known to cause any other problems,
affect the engine life, etc.
2. Any do's, don't do's, good practices to get the best out if it

Well, you might say - if not chipped, tip or no tip suck. But until the chip ...

Thanks in advance.

The tip just allows you to hold the gear longer. If the rpm gets too low, it will shift down for you. I use it 50/50, as long as I'm not holding my coffee

yeah when shifting using the tip you can be on the gas and what not....however if u let off the gas....and then shift you'll notice the shifts become almost twice as fast....so to get a realy sporty feel using the tip....gas like you would normally then take your foot off the pedal and then shift then get back on the gas

also the tip is very safe for your tranny the way an auto tranny works is by soloinoids that ''tell'' your tranny to shift to the next gear....and tip just lets you control it

yea i love the tiptronic on my A4 2.0TQ. mine has the paddle shifters and im itching for warm weather and a local track to tear up
anyway, i dont think the tiptronic would cause any extra wear on the engine or tranny unless you drive like a tard. the owners manual offers some info on using it but obviously you should avoid unnecessary or erratic shifting, just like any auto or manual tranny.
also, the tiptronic offers more sporty performance but i also like to use it for better control. where i live i am always driving a two lane highway and iv noticed that when cruising between 50 -60mph the car likes to stay in 6th and 5th gear for a long time when i have to slow down for traffic or turns which leads to slow acceleration after that

If you know the concept of manual your fine... Just pay attention to ur rpms ... And as far as u recently discovering how fun manual is don't expect any tip to be as awesome as stick.. Cause I've yet to drive a tip with really good response time

have ya drivin a new audi with tip? lol i know there will always be a diff between a manual and auto w/ tiptronic but i think audi has a great system for people that want the convenience of an auto with some of the fun and performance of a manual. now i dont have much room to talk since iv only driven a stick a few times but i have friends that drive only manuals and i dont like the lag/jerking motion when shifting. now i know every driver/car is diff but i think the smooth, quick shifts with my audi in any mode are awesome

Ever drive a DSG tranny? Go test drive an A3 or GTI auto and you will crap yourself. Too bad the A4's do not offer that tranny. Shifts faster than anything.

I only drive in tip mode...Never in auto. Been doing it for 6 years on my car and no issues, so I imagine its pretty robust.
