Timing Belt Clarification

I recently purchased a 2006 A4. I specifically selected this year as the local Audi dealership told me that I didn't need to be concerned about timing belt issues as mid year 2005 model and on had been switched to a timing chain. I now see on the forum timing belt maintenance for my 2006. So which is it, timing belt, timing chain and if belt, what is the service interval. my 06 currently has 71K on it. The wife is going to love an immediate 1K bill for my new purchase.

Is it a 2.0T or 3.2? Mid-year '05+ 2.0T is a belt, and service interval is around 100-110K.

3.2 is the chain that you shouldn't have to deal with.

Sweet Relief!

You have made my day as my purchase is a 3.2. Now I can focus on some of the other things I have read that aren't as ominous as a failed timing belt. Thanks for the information.

Be fortunate your dealer got it right. My car has the 2.0t and the timingbelt. When I asked if the replacement interval had changed, (which it had, from 115,000miles to 110,000miles) they told me not to worry, I had a timing chain, which I knew was totally wrong. I pitty anyone else that was told that, didn't know any better, and ends up with a trashed engine.

2.0T didn't go to the timing chain until 2009

the 3.2L can be finicky.... but usually only in A6's which is weird. I always recommend the 3.2L Sline in an A4. As a tech who has seen, driven, and worked on every model and engine its my favorite and the one i would personally buy.
