Default Tips for buying?

Hi!
I'm looking to buy a b7 and I was wondering if there is anything I should look for or certain years/motors/trans/features to stay away from? I always like todo plenty of research before I buy a car so anything will help.

Thanks!

Most people will recommend going with the 2.0 Turbo. There are way more options as far as mods go. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the Quattro, even if you don't live in an area that gets much snow, its still extremely nice to have. There are a few stickies up top that have much more info, give them a look through.

The best b7 is the 2008 Manual Sline Quattro 2.0T. The second best is the 2007 Manual Quattro 2.0T w/ Premium Package if you have monetary constraints.

What if you are not going to mod it and want an auto? Is the 3.2 more reliable then the 2.0T?

No mods, a 3.2 would be perfect for anyone. Just sips a little more gas. Good power for a stock car. Any itch to mod this and you will regret it though so be content. Very reliable.

2.0 with auto is what I have. Will most likely not mod it. I choose it over the 3.2 for the fuel economy and the ability to mod should I get the itch. Averageing 29.5 mpg with 80% high way driving.

Fuel economy is crucial if you have a long highway commute. The in town gas mileage is nothing special however.

2007/2008 2.0T 6sp manual, Quattro if you need it. If you wish to get an S Line remember that all 2008 (US Model B7's) came with the S Line body kit, not the suspension or other S Line goodies. Some vendors slap an Sline badge on non-Sline 2008's because of the body kit. Check to make sure it is an Sline before you fork out the cash for a "fake" Sline! 3.2's are a great engine's 255hp burns more fuel, also heavier in the nose (these are nose heavy cars). I would not mind having a 3.2 Quattro with tiptronic if I went that path. Only issue I have heard with the 3.2's is carbon build up in some models that can screw up the motor. The 2.0T's have several issue's not all models but things you need to check. The 2007/2008's came with a revised BWT engine that improved some of the internals but other (cheap parts) can fail (PCV, DV etc.). Also the cam follower can be a problem for 2.0T's. Again not all B7's but...

There was a recall for the coil packs, and Audi extended the warranty on the cam /HP fuel pump/and follower for 10 years or 120tmls.

Either way, the B7 is a great ride. I now have 48tmls on my 2007 and it is still cruising good!
