Turbo replacement problems!! Please help!
Hey everyone. Looking for some wisdom
I just replaced the turbo on my B7 with a new OE turbo. I used a PDF on here to assist with the removal and installation. It all went pretty easy.
After buttoning everything up and connecting the battery I said a little prayer and started her up.
Upon start up there was ALOT of white smoke out of the exhaust, I assumed it was assembly lube and oil from manufacture. I let her run for a few minutes then shut her down. I checked the fluids and all was good.
I restarted her back up and the smoke died down, but it moved to a bluish color, I got under the vehicle to check for leaks and found alot of oil leaking from the union between the cat and the mid pipe. I shut the car back down and checked the oil level and it was down a 1/2 quart from full.
I wasn't sure if it had oil in the exhaust from when the original turbo let go so I started it back up and let it run for a bit again, the oil continued to leak from the same place, I looked around the turbo for leaks and found none. I shut the car down and she was down a full quart. I have not done anything else since this point.
Any suggestions as to where to start investigating what it may be? Any help would be most appreciated.
Thank you so much.
Scott

I hate to say it, but this kind of sounds like a defective (new) turbo. Normally when a turbo goes you will see the blue-ish smoke from the exhaust (Blueish = oil) like you described. Maybe another member can chime in on my suspicions, but this kind of sounds like the case. You're obviously loosing a TON of oil in a very short period of time so either your new turbo is defective or something went wrong during the install (Supply line, etc)... We've made silly mistakes before
