Default What's that sound? 2006 A4 2.0T 6sp man.

Hello All...

2006 B7, 2.0T 6sp manual.

So, this is so hard describe there is no way to even search... I've tried.

Whenever I open my DRIVER side door, (only happens with driver door), first thing in the morning, I hear a "groan" come from under the engine compartment. It is from outside the car, not within the cabin. Some days it's louder than others some days the groan is more emphatic some days its very slight; but it's always there.

This does not happen when I enter the car for the second or third time, only the first thing in the morning.

It happens immediately when the door is open and lasts about as long as it takes to open the door. It sort of sounds like something motor driven or servo driven and i've been noticing this for the last year or so. Can't say it's gotten worse but it has not gotten better.

Any clues?

Thanks guys.

What you are describing sounds like the low pressure fuel pump spooling up. When you open the drivers door, it triggers the pump to spool up. I can't remember if it does it every time, or only if the engine is cold. the manual warns against opening the drivers door repetively without starting the engine since that might damage the pump. So if I need to get into the car, i will use any door but the drivers just to be safe.
