2011 A4 Knocking When Car is Turned Off
Hi Everyone,
I did search through the forums to try and find out if anyone else had asked a similar question. There are so many questions about knocking, but I didn't find one specifically like mine so here goes (sorry if indeed there already is a post about this)...
I'm a new 2011 a4 owner. I've only had the car for about 3 weeks now, but when I shut it off, after driving I'd say at least a few minutes there is a "knock" every 7-8 seconds, sounds like it's coming from the engine. Eventually it goes away, over a minute for sure.
I previously had a 2007 bmw and when I shut if off there was a little knocking, a bunch of knocks, for a short period. Much shorter then the solo knock sound I hear from the a4.
I talked with my sales person and brought my car into the dealership to deal with the head of service and drove around with a mechanic so the car could warm then shut if off so he could hear the sound. All 3 people said this is just the engine cooling off because it is a 4 cylinder and turbo charged so it is working pretty hard.
All this makes sense to me, but I just wanted to ask ya'll. Is this normal?
I was also told this sound would lessen in time. I have been only filing with premium gas, fyi.
Thanks for your help. This ninja appreciates it.
