A4 3.0 tdi
Hey,
I love the new A4 but i would love to get it in a 3.0 TDI. Does anyone know when to expect them in the US ? I read about a diesel marathon that Audi had a few days ago presenting the new diesel models and I also wrote to Audi but so far they haven't replied back yet.
a 3.0 TDI will get 32 mpg and go to 60 in 5.6s thats impressive...
Also how is the while diesel thing here in the US ? I know in Europe(I'm Polish) everyone says that the Audi diesels are great but I read somewhere that Americans don like diesels (with these gas prices I wouldn't need one but maybe in a few years I'll go back and would like to take the car with me and not get killed by gas prices with a 2.0T or 3.2.
Thanks!

"Thank you for contacting Audi of America. We appreciate your interest
in Audi diesel engines and are happy to celebrate the coming of the
first of these models which have proved so popular in Europe. In 2009,
Audi will be putting the cleanest diesel engine in the world into series
production vehicles in the USA. From the beginning, all Audi TDI
models will be 50-state compatible.
The first application of the 3.0 TDI engine with ultra-low emission
system is scheduled to be for the Audi Q7. Later we will see other
diesel models, but exact engines, models and scheduling have not yet
been announced. Please watch for updates on these and other future
diesel vehicles in our newsletters and on our site, at Audi
Lifestyle>Technology>TDI."

Americans who know diesels love them. This is small minority.
GM did a bad thing (as usual) that changed course of car history in USA.
They sold diesels in early 1980s that were truly horrible. Gas block, modified for diesel, they broke fast and the cars s**ked anyway. They also sold V8 gas with cylinder deactivation that did not work and those broke too so also killed off that avenue in public eye.
Also VW rabbit/golf diesel was a clattery noisy slow s**tbox thing when sold in early 1980s, the car was cheap, the thing was smelly, people who haven't really looked at modern diesel vaguely remember this stuff and veer away. They are sought after by minority though.
Also US taxes diesel more than gas. Also there seems to be a bottleneck in diesel production, so it again costs more, and people who don't know diesel think there is no point unless its a few cents per mile less expensive than gas.
Finally diesels are mostly illegal in USA anyway. Emissions law prevents them, the law kind of stays ahead of technology. For now its legal if Car Company wants to spend the $ to comply with latest generation controls. Audi does, subaru, honda, VW, mercedes. Not the rest.
I don't know availability of 3.0 diesel. I am afraid it will be extra $10,000 to buy. I want 2.0d A4 and it wont be offered in USA anytime soon I fear. Sigh.

Thanks for the info, I think i'll just have to go with a 2.0T but i must say that i'll have to consider a 335. or just buy a maszdaspeed 3
and then when i go back home get a diesel there
