A4 Wheels
Ok folks, my first post/question. At the risk of getting ripped for asking a question that has been asked before (I did try and search but couldnt find what I needed) here goes... I'm about to buy a 2010 A4 but I would like to go with wider wheels. I know the A4 oem wheels can be 17, 18 or 19 but I cant seem to find the widths. I'm guessing 8.5's. They all seem too narrow for my taste. I like the wheels/tires to be flush with the fender well. The 19's on the S4 are close. Maybe they are 19x 9's or 9.5's? I'm also wondering how wide will I need to go to get the look I desire? Possibly a staggered profile also? Thanks in advance and if I offend anyone with an old question my apologies. D
I can answer the wheel width question for you. For 09 a4, the 17's come in 7.5 with 45mm offset, or 7.0 with 46 offset for winter, and 8's with 47mm offset. 18's I saw 5 choices and all were 8 inches wide with 47mm offset. 19's had 3 choices, all 8.5's with 43mm offset. Audi accessory wheels for the 09 S4 were listed as being 8.5x19's as well. I couldn't find any 9's or wider fitting the S4 cars. Hopefully this gives you a starting point.
Jeff,
Yep, it does. I'm finding out that the problem is the front wheel drive. Definitely no staggering allowed with fwd. I'm used to rear wheel drive sports cars with 10's in the back and 9's or 9.5's in the front. I didnt realize the A4 would be so limited but I've seen pics of modded A4's with big wheels/tires so I dont know....

Dane,
I have been in search of the same question, how wide can I go. I have a 2006 S4 which is currently all stock with 235/40/18's. We are looking to dress it up with performance and looks enhancements now that is has some miles and is out of warranty. In trying to keep the overall diameter of the tire the same and not reduce the sidewall of the tire to much more for ride comfort issues. I have found that I can go with a 265/35/18 which is almost identical in diameter but would add approximately 1"+ in width and in looking at all the measurements it looks good under the fenders and should clear with no problems. However, the recommended wheel width is a min of 9" for this tire width, which I have not been able to source easily. And most of the wheel suppliers that I have spoken with play it very safe and recommend max an 8.5" width wheel for this car? However, I'm not sure but I believe with the right offset it should be fine. There is not a lot of information out there to help unfortunately. I'm placing some calls to a few wheel manufactures to see what they have to say; I will keep you posted. Or maybe someone has more insight that can help with an answer? B

B,
Here's what I've been able to find out though I'm not totally sure if this also goes for an 06 but it probably does. The front wheel drive aspect of the car is the kicker. It's an easier to fix problem than I thought. Just add spacers. I'll end up with 19 x 8.5's and look for wheels with an offset around 35mm. If they dont come out to the fender well far enough I'll just add spacers. Check out VMR's website. Nice wheels and nice pictures of cars so you can see how they look. If you want to keep your oem wheels just add spacers. H&R seem to make the best ones. D
