B8 Key Fob
I just got a warning light that the Battery in my Key fob needs to be replaced. I have 2 questions:
1. Is this normal after only 1.5 years?
2. Will I have to reprogram the remote after replacing the battery?
Additional details - I have the "Audi Advance Key" start/stop button, which I always use. 23K miles on the car. I am the first owner of the car, which I bought two Mays ago. With my Subaru, I went 6 years before replacing the battery in my fob.

If anyone cares or is also researching this topic.
1. It is normal for the key fob battery to wear out in 12-18 months if you are using the "Advanced Key" push button start.
2. Using the key slot does NOT charge the key fob battery, but it does prevent the key fob from using the transmitter, which will save battery life.
3. Replacement battery is CR2032 ($5) and only takes 2 seconds to replace
4. I did not have to reprogram the key fob
5. Keyless entry features still work
Apparently BMW and Mercedes use rechargeable batteries in their key fobs, but Audi does not because they can leak causing damage to the fob or catch fire causing obvious issues to your ignition/dash. I suspect the real reason is because it's cheaper, but a $5 battery is not a big deal. If you had to take the car to the dealership to get reprogrammed I would be miffed.

I second the procedure. It is easy to replace, simply remove the key and pull the battery from the fob. CR2032 is the same battery used in many garage door openers.
Mine also died after about 18 mos-2 years. I have Advanced Key and always use the start button.
