Does this look right? Reason for P2279 code?
Car: 2010 A4 (B8)
Issue: Every few weeks I go to start my car in and it starts but idles rough to the point that it stalls. If I start it a few times it eventually starts up normal. Sometimes the CEL comes on where I've pulled the code P2279. (intake system leak)
Looking through the forum I decided to check the PCV and noticed a small tear in the part of the PCV shown in the photo. I can't imagine that's normal?
1) Does anyone know what that is?
2) Could it be the cause of the P2279 code?
Other symptoms:
- there's a faint whistle sound around 2k rpm's
- Feels like there's turbo lag.
- Just got 2 additional codes this morning, P2178/P2188/P2279
There's got to be a leak somewhere. This is my first car with a turbo. Any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I have the same problem, got the same error code (P2279), and there's air coming out of the PCV Bleeder. I cover the leak with my hand, and the idle gets better. I showed it to a mechanic, and he thinks I need to replace my PCV valve. There's a DIY video on Youtube that I watched, and it seems simple enough to replace the valve.

That said - I'm getting my butt kicked by a p2188 code (too rich at idle).
I've already replaced the following:
- PCV
- Coil Packs
- Spark plugs (twice)
- MAF
- Intake Air Hose/clamps)
- Front o2 sensor (it drove GREAT, with no codes... for 4 days then code came back)
I'm hoping it's not a fuel injector or worse the hpfp.
Going to try a throttle body cleaning.. I'm sure it's carbed up. 120k miles on it now.

I replaced my PCV and it seemed to have fixed the issue. Was very easy to change.

Pitsnake,
HPFP (High Pressure Fuel Pump). The O-ring/seal on the pump was worn and was leaking extra fuel hence the p2188 "Rich on idle" code.
Bought the pump for $350 on ECSTuning.com. Installed myself - was VERY easy install.
Note: Something tells me that the original pump was fine and it was just the O-ring/seal which went bad (a $4 part). But since I already ordered the pump and was so fed-up with the situation I just put the new pump in.
Hope that helps.

I've been battling a similar issue with 2279. Replaced the PCV diaphragm first, but it came back. Last night replaced the whole PCV and still came back, but first stalling at idle at every stop. Now it drives ok, but light is still on and not sure where to go from here. Looks like I'm taking it in to be checked out since the valves have deposits and need cleaning anyways to the tune of $320.
