I've been lurking for a while and finally registered. I have a 2009 A4 Prestige 3.2 liter. Very happy with the car overall, but having some issues with the navigation system. I searched but couldn't find an answer to my questions.

1) Is it just me or are the navigation directions horrible? The system always takes me on a roundabout route, when much shorter direct routes are available. Do I have to change any setting, or is this just the nature of the Audi navigation?

2) Is there any way to input a place name into the NAV system?

3) When I search for Special Destination, the list of options is very limited. For instance I was trying to find Metropark train station today, which is a major NJ Transit station in Central NJ. When I clicked on "Train Stations" no NJ Transit stations show up on the list. What's going on here?

Any tips or advice are much appreciated. I'm pretty disappointed with this NAV system considering the price of the vehicle.

My other vehicle is a 2010 Jeep Wrangler, which cost about half as much as the Audi. The NAV system in the Jeep is far easier to use, offers more destination options, and takes a much more direct route.

 

1) Go to route options and choose dynamic on (use if you have the live traffic updates), and "fast" or "econ". It is defaulted to short which uses a ton of side streets. My first few weeks of using the nav drove me nuts too.

2) If I am understanding your question, if you want to store say your "home", when you are in your driveway or whatever, go to memory then store current position. Set as default and it will always be on the bottom of the nav home screen.

3) unfortunately there are a lot of places that are not preloaded onto the system. I have found that either the place you are looking for is not stored in a category, or it just doesn't have it. My advice is search on your phone for the right address or know the address before hand then just type that in.

1) I believe my NAV system was set to "fast." It was still giving me wacky directions and taking me all over the place.

2) For example...let's say I want to go to "Arthur's Steak House" or "Home Depot." Can I input names like this into the system? I am guessing the answer is no, based on your response to #3.

3) Guess I need to upgrade to a smartphone...I'm still old school and using a flip phone. Yeah I'm a dinosaur. And I'm only 34!
