Steering stiff after car out in the cold
Hi. I live in Nova Scotia Canada. My 2013 A4 has a unique problem (well to me anyway) During the last couple of real cold days when my car was parked outside, I found the steering was incredible stiff to turn for about 5 minutes. It has done that a couple of times now, but only if the temps outside are really cold. The car has electro mechanical power assist steering so its not the power steering fluid! Any suggestions or anyone had that issue before?
If it’s below -25F, all steering going be a bit hard to turn for a short while. But if it’s not that cold, your intermediated steering shaft probably seizing up. That part is all mechanical and if it’s rusted and inadequate grease, it could cause problems. It’s about $350 and 2-3 hours of labor.
