What size snow tires for A4 Avant S-Line?
I have the 2009 A4 Avant S-Line Prestige with 19 inch summer performance tires, and want to get snow tires (rims and tires) but I am not sure what size to get. I was thinking 17 inch because I understand they may perform better in the snow, plus they are cheaper. Specifically I am thinking of Dunlop Sport 3D tires.
Is there any reason to get 19 or 18 inch snow tires instead?
Thanks,
Peter

My dealer has a deal through the end of the year on their tire/wheel combos. The larger the wheel, the worse to snow performance, as I understand it (lower sidewalls). The max factory recommended on B8 is 17". If you order from elsewhere, keep in mind you probably need to by new lug bolts (or possible adapter), a centercap, and unless you buy them, you lose the tire pressure monitoring. I (just today) bought the 2010 A4 17" wheels with Dunlop 3D snow tires for $1650, including tire pressure sensors, mounting, balance, and those tire-totes....Hard to beat...

Audi fitted my A4 with 16" Audi Aluminum winter wheels and Pirelli 210 Snow Sport tires. My summer wheels are 18". B8's should probably use 17" as they are slightly larger automobiles.
