My 2010 A4 CAEB with 130k and Audi is covering my part 1 today and still use oil after new rings no cost to me. Dealers already have internal memo. Contact Audi usa and ask to speak with Ashley Frank. She will help you out. Elk Grove Audi was turning me down for the fix even though I showed the email from Audi usa stating my car was covered even if it has 130k. Finally Ashley Frank audi advocate called the dealer and explain so this morning I am getting a new pcv, crank case seal and computer update and see if that helps. Probably not since my car burns 1 quart every 200 miles! Still love my Audi.

Great dialogue here but... I took a trip from Upstate NY to Reston VA for a sales meeting a week ago, round trip was ~ 850 miles. I topped the oil off before I left... I checked it again when I got back and it was down a full quart! If i'm going through a quart every 1500 miles.... why get the oil change service every 10k?? Just doesn't make sense. Couldn't take the burning smell in my garage nor deal with the fact that this just doesn't seem normal. Sold it yesterday for $18.5! Hope ya'll have better luck!

You have done what many others have done. This is most likely how Audi has been able to bury this problem and because it's only a quart every 1500 miles they hide behind the OM statement of normal oil usage. Maybe we'll see the new owner on one of these sites in the near future. As I had mentioned in the past it would be nice to know the oil usage of a car before you buy it but then again people wouldn't want to buy one. Does anyone wait for 10K miles for an oil change. Good luck with your next car , what did you get.

When are the car mags (R&T, Motor trend, etc.) going to get on this story and move beyond their continually-glowing praise for Audi interiors?! Oh wait, that's right, Audi spends millions at each magazine on advertising, in return for "favorable editorial content." Answered my own question: Never.

NJ, Jag, Shep, and all...
Let's be real...autos, trucks, motorcycles, boots, ball gloves, firearms...anytime you read a review on these "desired products" it's usually pretty good. And usually the product is good (lots of progress in manufacturing).

It's called life. I grin every time I think of a review on a handgun, rifle, shotgun, it goes something like"...if I had $500 to spend on a handgun the XXXXX would be on my list".

Thanks guys and girls

Default Audi of America comes through.

Took my Audi A4 2009 in to Audi Stevens Creek as instructed by Audi of America for free oil consumption test. My car failed the oil consumption test they performed on it. Result: Stevens Creek Audi rebuilt my engine (replacing four pistons) at zero cost to me. I was provided a free loner car while my Audi was in the shop. Hope you guys can run with this information.

Did they just replace the rings or did they also put all new seals and head gasket? Could you shed some light in all the parts they put in? I am in Sacramento and I just got my part one pcv, crank seal, and ecm update for free and after 500 miles the oil light came on so mine is ready to go back in to Audi.

In order to replace the pistons and rings they need to remove the head. That being done you will get a new head gasket along with seals and gaskets. I am assuming they replace the piston rod crank bearings also but have not heard if this is done. No one has posted as to what in total is replaced so it would be interesting to see the parts breakdown. My bet is they would do as little as possible. Another question is do they replace the rods or is it just the piston and rings. If that is the case and they use your old rods then the bearings will be reused. This all assumes that the new pistons are a direct replacement and the old rods are a direct fit.

I received papers recently to become part of a class action suit against Audi because of the oil consumption problems. As much of a headache as this was for me (I had a manual transmission 2010 A4 Quattro 2.0 premium and traded it for a 2014 premium plus), eligibility requires that you have to have spent money on your repairs and you must still have the invoices to show for it. The dealer denied any issues in the beginning and only submitted to repairs (on them) when I pressed to have them done before the 50,000 free service expired. I did not spend a dime of money, only time (and traded a car long before I would have) but I encourage any of you still having issues to look into the suit and joining the class.

Default Received papers.....

RBethaney (and all),

We too received the packet concerning the law suit. Reading further into the agreement/suit...the final gavel doesn't come down on the podium until May 4, 2015 (or sometime the beginning of May). Audi does have the opportunity to appeal the ruling although it's doubtful they'll do that.

So again - unless I'm mistaken in legalize - most, repeat...most dealers are attempting to get in front of the problem and not create any more bad publicity than what is already out there. Dealers are all different but - so far - our dealer has completed stage ! and I'm watching things closely. No cost to date. They even explained that although the consumption was not that severe I should take advantage of this action NOW in order to avoid a problem that may arise in the next 50/60K. Who knows? In the future once things quiet down, it may be an even bigger struggle to get any kind of help. I'll keep this posting current as to the outcome.

Thanks again for all the input and comraderie.

Sgt Steve
