Winter Steel Rims/Tires

Winter Steel Rims/Tires
Hey guys,
In a few short weeks, I'll be taking delivery of my new 2012 A4 sedan (Ibis White, Prestige, S-Line Plus Package). I'm coming from a MazdaSpeed 6, so it's a bit of an upgrade. I love my Mazda, but it's time for a change.
On the down side, however, winter is right around the corner up in the Northeast. I've decided I want to pick up a set of steel rims so the snow, ice and salt doesn't do any damage to the 19s.
I've done some looking around, but am having trouble making a final decision. First of all, can you get steel rims in 17s? As far as I can tell, Tire Rack has 15s and nothing else.
What tire size is suggested on a steel rim? Of course, I'd like it to be a bit narrower and taller to help fill in the lost space when dropping in size from 19s.
Finally, I've read that some people have trouble fitting 16s due to brake size issues. Is this an issue on the 2012?
Thanks in advance. Looking forward to your responses.

Some of this has already been discussed. Check out the thread below.
First thing you have to remember is you're driving an Audi now, not a Mazda - Steelies don't belong. You still want your car to look nice.
I have 19s as well and went to 17s for my winter set and had no problems clearing the brakes. I wouldn't try to go to 16s though.
I went with standard OEM tire size for 17s when I picked out the rubber, I don't recall what is was off the top of my head, but you can look that up.

i went to tirerack.com to look for 17" steelies and they don't apparently make them to suit the audis because of the big brakes-there's not enough clearance. so i settled for a cheap chinese-made set of wheels for the winter tires.
