can anybody give me some advice? i drive a tt 225 quattro.

my timing belt went on me whilst i was driving the other day. its in the garage at the mo but they havnt had chance to assess the damage. how much in UK money will this cost around and at what sort of milage should the timing belt been changed in the first place?
