Default vibration on acceleration.. 1997 A4 6cyl auto - Adelaide.South Australia

automatic, has done around 170,000 km, regularly serviced etc;

it vibrates when you accelerate, but the minute you take the foot of the accelerator it stops.. it vibrates/shakes when i accelerate up to a certain speed but stops the second i take my foot of the accelerator. (fades when the car warms up more/has been driving for a long time).

i've looked it up online and nothing seems to help.. so far my mechanic has changed the cv joints/shaft and also a valve.. neither were successful. he seems to think that it is the torque converter? also i think my MFS needs replacing, could this be the problem?

Rather than just replace the torque converter, if you decide to go the route of the transmission, try a full flush and fill on it first.
