5000S Heater blower control unit repair?
Car: 1984 5000S wagon - manual 5 speed. High miles, but running well, and it carries so much!
On our fourth heater blower control unit, and now having trouble finding affordable replacements.
Has anyone worked out which component fails on these? I have taken one apart by carefully cracking open the plastic housing and stripping off the gel which coats the circuit board. I would suspect the main transistor, but would value any input.
Cheers, and thanks!

Thanks ripo -
Will check out Force Five - I assume they're on the web.
I'll have another look through ebay - I found a unit from a 1987 TQ, but I think they had changed the wiring connector by that time, and I'm not sure they kept the wiring color codes the same, otherwise I'd be fine with splicing the old to the new.
Anyone have any experience adapting a later blower control unit? I wonder if they're any more reliable!
What I really need to do is try to adapt in manual (read 'reliable') rotary controls...

hey i have the same problem in my 85 5ks. what is it? i really wanna know. i cant keep having it quit on my in the middle of winter up here in VT. i spent hours searching for the problem and then finally got a new unit and then it didn't work. so then i searched again for several days finally brought it to the shop and both units worked the new and the old. pissed me off. all they did was plug them in. then it happened again! this time i was able to make it go. i threatened to bring it to the shop and poof it worked but if anyone knows what this is let me know. both times mine went out i had been spinning the tires...open parking lots and fresh snow it has to be done. but any ideas? im wondering if i got snow somewhere i shouldn't have? caused a short? but but i cant imagine i got snow behind the fire wall. any help would be great...no hurry i have heat...for now
