92 100 quattro 5spd, catastrophic driveshaft failure?
Hi, my 92 has 150k and is a great all around car! everything works and the usual has been kept up on.
it is a quattro, with 5 speed manual gear box.
However, the other day I shifted into reverse, and instead of the light single clunk sound I would occasionally hear, this time something seems to have come loose and the wheels aren't getting any power at low rpm's. And if I try to accelerate, there is really terrible grinding clunking death.
I have the car up on stands, creeped underneath and looked around, cant find anything visibly broken..
your greatly appreciated thoughts?

sounds like something with the clutch, throwout bearing perhaps? does it go into any gear at all? how does the pedal feel? does it feel like the stick is engaging properly?
grinding clunking death sounds bad. during your diagnosing, I would try to avoid whatever it was that made it make that noise
good luck

hey thx for the reply. The clutch and trans feel fine, I can move about the gears no problem, its only when I attempt to engage the clutch to the wheels. I'm convinced it's drivehsaft related but dam it's tight under there to find out
