CIS HELP
I noticed a nasty fuel leak coming from the return fuel line ... near the cat (hard fuel line going through the engine bay, running down the fire wall ... at the bottom part of the firewall it joins another hard fuel line- threaded connection type joint ... that's where it was leaking - the other fuel line runs the whole length of the car joins a soft line which goes in to the tank ... Now the problem is that I was unable to recreate the leak by running the fuel pump (jumped it) .. The conditions were: got a full tank of gas, outside temp 90 deg F, drove 1.5 miles from the gas station to the house, 1.5 hours later discovered the gas leak, have not been able to recreate it yet .... Any ideas as to what might have happened will be really appreciated
common fault on the older cars, the pipes run through the chassis in the rear of the front inner wheel arch and the chances are they are pitted/corroded, I replaced mine on the old 90 with stainless lines and made them up myself
the hard lines stop at the rear pass wheal well ... where the presure accumutator is ... the soft ones bend around and about the wheal well and in to the tank ... and I'm messing with the gas tank vent line now it's not venting that good
ahh right so the pipes going into the fuel tank could be the problem, if everything is ok prom the accumulator then its holding pressure so no leaks there but the ones going into the tank to the pump are screwed in to the metal ring on top of the tank and it rusts but also the clamp holding the pipes in place tend to lose grip so you end up with lose of feed and pressure (there should be an inspection plate over that area either in the trunk or under the rear seat as in the saloon, just some ideas
thanks for the help ..
i'll replace all the ruber fuel lines ... because there is not much else what can cause a retun fuel line leak ... maybe loads of presure in the gas tank but i'm checikng on that too
