Middle of the highway stall from fuel pump failure

One month back check engine light came on and on my A4 2005 130K P2008 and P2015 codes came on. I took it to a shop. I miss my old mechanic. I have had to move cities and well I am doubting the advice coming from my new shop. I was told my Manifold runner actuator was faulty and I was asked to replace. After a $500 job, I was happy at having given my car a boost in performance. But yesterday middle of the highway my car stalled. No acceleration. Car would not start. I towed it to yet another close by shop where my car is lying unable to start. So at this shop I get codes P2293 fuel pump, P0089 Fuel regulator and P0328 Knock sensor. Recommendation is to replace the fuel pump. I am told that if the fuel pump is fixed and there is still the codes then fuel regulator might need to be replaced. Here is my questions
1)Does this sound like an ok plan? I am being given a quote of ~$1000 for after market fuel pump.
2)I am told that the original fuel pump part might be even more expensive from Audi dealer. Unfortunately that is the one that is easily available, even by tomorrow.
Sorry for zero knowledge. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Even links etc, would be helpful. Thank you
