a clay bar is a clay bar...right

well after hearing and seeing results of clay kits, i looked online only to find outrageous prices of clay, lube and towels. i went to my advance autoparts and bought this clay kit-Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit but when i used it, it didnt seem to do what i thought it would. i finished an area of around 1.5 feet and i can still feel contamination on the paint. im thinking about just buying some expensive clay and use the meguiars lube. am i doing something wrong.

Did you do the whole process? You have to wash and wax it before you use it for perfect results. I washed, waxed and clayed mine and it was better than I have ever seen. You shouldn't feel any grit on the car after you do the whole process.

That was backwards. You clay, then wax. :D After work drinks...

For basic work i prefer megs clay it does not mar with normal use, It lasts forever, it does not deteriorate quickly.

Now there are fine, medium and heavy cut clays.

I stress that anything over fine will induce micro marring. making it nessisary for a good polishing or even a light compounding.

Stick to fine clay.
