HEllo again... its been awhile... I have been very busy with school and I have been neglecting my AUDI. She is
REALLY REALLY dirty, sometimes I went a couple weeks without washing her. I know that the dirt is in the paint and
it might be a bit oxidized. I need to wax her. Could someone tell me what I should get? This is a 2000, I have no
idea if that teflon wax is on this car. I want to know whats safe for this car? I want to wash it, get some kind of
cleaner wax to get contaminants off the surface, then polish the hell out of her.

I was hoping to use Meguiar's Gold Class Clear Coat Paste Wax to polish because thats what I used to use on my
B3. Dunno if its safe for that clear coat. If there is anything else I need to do.... please tell me. Any way I should
approach this... please clue me in. Thanks.

Any good car wash that will strip the old wax is fine.
Using Meguier's should be a good choice. Many detailing guys will advise on some wild and crazy stuff (with prices to match), but it's mostly about how you apply the stuff and that you use a quality applicator. Old socks or underwear just ain't the way to go. Spend your bucks on good towels, sponges, buffers, etc. - and plenty of them, too. If the material that is pushing down onto the paint is poor quality, you'll get poor quality results.

I dunno, I work at a detail shop, and hate both mothers, and meguiars... they make way too much garbage. My boss has started his own lineup of products, and contracted a chemical engineering company for the design of his products... it's really neat how the stuff is done, and modified, and how certain chemicals concentration is added and subtracted in minute amounts, to yield very different results. Mothers and Meguiars, skimps on a lot of of their stuff.

For instance, I overheard one convo with my boss, and the guy helping him with the design of his top of the line soap. If I remember correctly, glycerine is what makes the suds, and makes them last. His best soap has a crapload of this stuff in it, but, it is the most expensive ingredient. The guy was telling my boss "cut out half the glycerine, you'll save x% of money, and you'll still have more glycerine content than any store bought brand (ie meguiars) -- my boss just shut him down... haha, when you wash and detail cars all day long, you notice that paying the money is worth it.
NOW -- to be fair, Imola has a good point... a lot of the $$ products out there, are garbage, so its really tricky.
In mothers defense, their 3 stage cleaner/polish/wax thing... leaves your car looking really good... however, caurnuba wax is garbage, and doesnt last long at all, and the stuff takes forever to get on and off!

Does ZAINO exist in USA? I used zaino before I used my bosses stuff... and zaino was probably almost as good as my bosses products, but it was about twice the price... I don't know though. If anybody is interested in a pkg of misc stuff for their car, I can probably put something together, and ship it. would probably be around 40 or 50US (shipped) and you'd get a good amount of stuff -- wash, sealer, synthetic wax, tire shine, glass cleaner, applicator pad, wash mit, and a bucket (though the bucket might add to shipping). PM me if thats something you'd be interested in

this sealer / wax combo, looks awesome, lasts a long time, and is sooo much easier to apply than mothers... and its cheaper than mothers too I think. who knows... I've written a short novel. done... now. :P

Zaino does exist and it is pricey stuff.

You should see what you can package and propose to your boss to help market it online - start here at AF.

Just make sure you detail the products well and describe the best way to use the products.

You might want to try Wolfgang Pre-Wax Polish Enhancer to clean the paint, and Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant to seal, protect, and give a deep, wet shine. Many people use this combo with outstanding results, and our products are extremely easy to use.

Hello,

First off single stage paints truly oxidize, clear coats don't really oxidize but they do get attacked by the elements like fallout, acid rain, bird poo, etc.

To remedy the paint condition you may need to clay the paint then polish and then wax or seal. You don't use a "cleaner/wax" and then polish the paint for you will then be removing all of the wax. Resulting in a bad finish and uneeded work.

Teflon is nothing but a marketing game. They are selling the name but a name can't do anything to protect your car. Claying and polishing will remove what ever is on your car, at least wax and sealer wise.

Polishing your paint is best done with a polisher as it generates more heat and friction than your hand can for a more sustained amount of time. A rotary is not needed if your paint is in good to fair condition. A PC or Cyclo polisher should work just fine.

Most products are safe for your car but not all products will provide the best results. many polishes are not really polishes but rather paint "fillers" so instead of removing the light marring in your paint they only cover it up, temporarily, and then 2 weeks later they are all appearing again.

Hope that helps,
Anthony

Glycerin is not what makes suds (glycerin betaine is used rarely) but rather some type of sodium sulfate is what makes soaps suds up. Look at your shampoo ingredients. You should see some form of "sodium lauryl sulfate" in there. Many car makers add "salt" to make their soaps sudsy but this usually leads to your car drying with a film. Car washes with high salt content should be avoided.

Glycerin is used as a softner, especially when used or marketed towards skin care, it is a lubricant of sorts and gives the car wash its lubricating feeling. So "suds" do not always mean "best" if they are the wrong type of suds. Suds should be long lasting and work to carry or encapsulate dirt, making for an easy rinse off.

I just claybared my car this weekend... All I can say is that it has been the single biggest improvement I have had on my car's finish - and I am a detailing freak.

The paint feels like it just came from the factory. Then I used Meguiars Show Glaze followed by Meguiars Yellow Tech Wax. The car looks immaculate.

It's true Meguiars does make some crap, mainly for the uninformed market - but if become informed and you use their top lines you will be impressed.
