Paint Correction Question (Porter Cable 7424XP)
 

I just bought a Porter Cable 7424XP and I was wondering if the hex pads from CG's that come with it are good for Audi Paint? Are there better pads for our type of cars?

My car is a Phantom Black color if that makes any difference.

I have some pics below for the section of paint Im going to correct. Im going to use the V32-38 line of products from CG's.

that's some pretty deep looking scratches I would use what you have first and see what it does. if u need to go more aggressive use surbuf pads with megs 105 followed with megs 205 and a good wax worked wonders on my black a8. you cant really mess up with a da polisher. those spots may even need a little wet sanding ?

Yea that's what I feared that the scratches might be a bit deeper than what a polisher can fix. Especially in the first photo, it's a tad bit deeper that the other 2. What is the correct way to wet sand? I'll have to do some research on that as well.

best to do some research many videos onnet about wetsanding. I do caution go light you can always take off more but once its sanded its gone forever light touch and take your time

You need something more aggressive. I would try Wolfgang Uber Compound. See What kind of results you achieve and go from there. Start out with the hex cutting pad, then move up to a microfiber pad, then onto a foamed wool pad and then wool if needed. Start less aggressive and work your way up. And yes, sanding may be required, but I'm assuming that the scratches are to the base coat. You're going to go through the clearcoat by the time you remove the scratches. Compound as much as possible and leave it at that, only gonna make things worse when trying to chase down deep scratches. Maybe something like Dr. Colorchip paint chip repair kits would fill the scratches in a little bit too. Hope this helped
