restoring leather seat with a sharpie?
 

Hey I know this may sound crazy.. but I'm pretty curious about it. My seats are sad looking, with a lot of fading and such. I would like to restore them, but my problem is I'm flat broke. Being a full time student, and saving all of my money for my 3 month eurotrip this summer really has me strapped for cash. Anyway.. I was talking with my mechanic, and he told me that he has restored plenty of black leather seats with a black sharpie, and some really good leather conditioner. I took a look at what he's done to the custom recaro buckets in his jeep, and they look perfect. Before I take a sharpie to my seats, I would like to seek some input. I know this sounds stupid, but it doesn't sound like too bad of an idea. He gave me a crap load of leather conditioner he uses for his rolls royce.. it's good stuff, I just can't think of the name at the moment. I know about swissol, but that is expensive $hit. Any input would be helpful.. thanks!

damn. I'm willing to give up those ramen noodles. But honestly I'm ordering the dye right now. I have conditioner already, so it's worth a shot I guess. Thanks.

I'd reccomend a product called Leatherique. Its expensive (about $70 for the kit) but it should recondition your worn leather and make it look alot better. If not, just redye em

They need to be dyed. There is really no other way. I have leatherique, it will make the leather smoother, & more supple, but it will not bring the color back.

If you are really on a budget, get the seats nice & hot, then apply some shoe polish, let it sit, then buff it out, after you buff it, put on some leather cleaner, it will pick up most of the polish, but leave it in the cracks. The seats will look good for a little while, till you can dye them.
