Duno i have 4 gauge r unning through the firewall. I was always under the assumption 0 gauge was unessacary.

Depending on the maker of the 4 guage the best is only rated at 210 amps and 1200 watts rms. So if I was just running the sub and the 1200 amp it would be more then enough. But since I'm planning on another amp I must go atleast one size down. And take into an account I may upgrade to 2 more amps if my factory amp ever shuts the bed it's logical to go with a 0 or a 1/0 which is even bigger.

how much does that 0 or 1/0 guage wire cost?

Steel2040 05-01-2010 06:39 AM

It isn't cheap 20 feet was $75 and that was eBay for monster cable. That was real good since my local shop wanted 21.32 a freakin foot and then I told them to go Fu#* them selfs lol. You should also grab the monster wire gromets used for penetrating the fire wall with alittle sealer around the nut it's impentriable with water there only like 8 dollars for 2

jlight113 05-01-2010 01:49 PM

sounds too expensive for me. Ill stick to my 4 guage wiring. lol

MOnster cable is a overpriced product that acheieves the same output as cheaper brands. Its the name ur paying for. overall ur looking for a high strand count and sheilding to be as thick as possible. For rcas u might want to purchase the higher end product as that is succeptable to noise interferance with low output. best bet is to get both brands ur looking at and compare them hand in hand.

hey, ran across this thread while searching for my own install i'll be doing in the coming week...i'm planning on running 1/0 guage wire to a second battery in the trunk. don't buy monster wire for your power stuff it's just overpriced and you are not getting any better quality (unless you find some good deals on it like i did with my rca cables 10 bucks for 16 feet woot), if you want to save some more go with some of this stuff
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=AKJJGJ0JKT8F1
even if you don't use the rest it's less than 40 bucks for 20 feet of 1/0 gauge wire even though it is aluminum or find a welding supply shop that might be even cheaper or if you're set on monster wiring amazon even has it cheaper than ebay
http://www.amazon.com/Brand-Monster-.../dp/B0035VQ0FU
i'll be looking at potential places to run the wire soon, if you find anything keep us updated
