2003 A6 Display Cluster Help
Hello everyone,
First time post. I have a 2003 Audi A6 2.7T. I want to replace my Display Cluster, my LCD is broken and with the time of mailing it out and getting a rental car in the interum, im thinking of just buying a used cluster on Ebay (or somewhere else) and replacing the whole thing. This seems easiest and cheapest. With my model, is the milage recorded in the instrument cluster or the engine somewhere? I read that some models record the milage in the cluster.
Thanks for the response!

Well no replies so far, so I will reply to myself I ordered a new display cluster, plugged it in and the car starts but then immediately shuts off. The display cluster recorded the mileage in the cluster itself, not the engine! And I’m sure the computer is sensing that this is not the correct cluster with the correct info (mileage etc) so it shuts the car off. So my question now is what do I do? I’m assuming I have to flash the rom chip on the cluster, or have the cluster reprogrammed to some extent... does this sound right? Any feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks everyone, hopefully I’ll get an answer this time.

I'm not absolutely certain with these models but usually what is required when replacing electronic elements in vehicles is what is commonly referred to as a DIVORCE/MARRIAGE process! This is a security feature which prevents hot parts swapping. You will need to have the registration process updated in the AUDI Database via OBD-II connection at your local dealership to remove & match the serial number(s) of the component(s) to the VIN.
