2008 A4 Wipers and Headlights Won't Stop ... EVER
 

2008 A4 2.0 Turbo. Otherwise stock.

A few weeks ago, the wipers started running all the time the car was running. The switch didn't have any affect. They ran at normal speed and I couldn't make them either stop or run at high speed. Running through all of the intermittent settings and such did nothing.

Then, my headlights started coming on while driving. Again, moving the headlight switch around did nothing.

Now, my headlights stay on all the time and they randomly go from normal to high-beams. The lights stay on and the wipers keep running even when I'm out of the car with the keys in my hand. The only way to get the lights to turn off and the wipers to stop is to disconnect the battery.

So, at this point, my car isn't drivable.

Any ideas what could be causing this electrical nonsense?

It was the control module. I've seen it called the power control module, the onboard control module, the onboard power control module, the body control module, and the comfort control module. I have no idea why people can't seem to agree on a single name for this damn thing, but it's the same thing. Here's a great youtube video that shows where it is and how to remove it ... granted, it's a UK version of the car that has a reverse cabin to the US, Germany, etc.


When I removed mine, water poured out of it. When I opened it up, there was a burned and melted component on the board. Ordered a new 8E0907279N from Wolf Auto Parts for $50. Actually, not new, it's a used part. I literally couldn't find a new part, though I didn't call a dealership. Everything works perfect.
