Do Body Shops Cause Electrical Problems?
Hello, All! My 2001 S4 was hit in the rear by a drunk, hit-and-run driver and had to have extensive body work (all behind the rear suspension). When I got the car back from the shop, they had put in a new battery. I have seen batteries ruined when shops weld on the body without removing the battery ground strap, so I became suspicious when my ECM began throwing check engine codes. It started with something about "open ground," and rapidly escalated to about a dozen codes related to cam sensors and throttle position problems. Finally, the car would not start and it had to be towed to the Audi Dealer. They were puzzled and called Audi of America Tech support, who stated that I needed a new ECM, because mine had been "fried." Anybody else ever have this experience? I need to try to get the body shop to pay for some, or all, of the costs (which are still mounting). Thanks in advance! Tom in Florida
