New Key Help

I have a 2006 Audi A6 Quatro 3.2. Car running perfect, lost the only key I had to it. Ordered a new key from a reputable locksmith that says he has ordered keys for Audi's before. He used Year, Make, Model, and Vin # to order it. Took about 4 days. Key gets here and his equipment will not activate it. The key works the door, will rotate to on position (does not activate dash lights, does not release steering whee or transmission lock), and will rotate to the start position, but the key will not activate. When door is opened, normal lights that would come on, do (Clock, odometer etc.) When key is inserted into ignition and moved to on position. No lights come onto the dash. Not a battery problem. Was the key made wrong (defective) even though it allows rotation of the ignition switch. What is my next step? Do I have to have it towed into a dealer? Anything else I can try?

You might have a defective key. Are you sure it's an OEM Audi key?

You can also take it to the dealer to have it programmed as long as it's an OEM key.

A car locksmith can also program it if you have an OEM key.

It's not a good key, why didn't you ask the locksmith who made the key for you. It's his fault btw. If he had good studies the work could be done perfectly. That's why now I study with vocationaltraininghq.com and get the best courses ever. I decided to change the job, so it supposed some money to pay, a new school, new courses. I was attracted by how much you can earn with this job. Having three kids to take care and a credit on my shoulders.

You mean to say that locksmith have to study now on vocationaltraininghq to gain knowledge, right?
