Installing aftermarket stereo, need 12v switch source
Hello all,
I'm installing a new Alpine HU.
Can anyone tell me the easiest place to find my 12v switch source? I'm using a Metra harness and dash kit, and if you know, the factory harness doesn't have a 12 volt ignition/switch wire that matches up with the Metra harness.
Where do I find it? Typically, I'd go right to the steering coloumn at the key switch, but I'd rather find something a little easier. Anyone know of a spot?
Much thanks...

Redsoxsurfer, what car do you drive? If it's a B5, then you have power terminals inside the dashboard above your left knee. Drop the panel below the steering column, and right near the left end of the dashboard, look underneath. You'll see four power posts there. Three have red wires going to them, and one (labeled 75x) has a yellow cable. The ones with red wires are constant 12v sources (power is always there regardless of the key) and the one with the yellow cable is switched 12v (power on with the key). Terminate your wire with a ring terminal, take off the nut on the 75x terminal, install the wire, and tighten the nut back down. That'll give you ignition-switched 12v power.
