Headlight Conversion with pictures
I recently swapped out the headlights on my B5 A4 for the later model projectors. As many of you know, there are a couple of modifications you have to make when installing the projectors. It may sound difficult, but I have some pictures to show how easy it is to do.
The two modifications you have to make are, trimming the fender where the turn signals are placed, and you will need to make a new wiring setup for the new headlights because of the different plugs between the old and the new.
The first modification: Trimming the fender. I used an air tool with a cutting wheel, it was fast and easy.

The second modification: Setting up wires and connectors to go from your old plug to the new plug. You will need to cut 6 pieces of wire. One side of the wire will need a female plug to plug into the headlight housing and you will need to use heat shrinkable tubing to place around the connector because the connectors are placed very close together, I also cut half of the connector to ensure they did not make contact with each other. The other side of the wire will need a round male connector to fit into the cars stock headlight plug. Check out the picture I have of the connectors I used, they worked perfectly.

And after a job well done.

If you look at the pictures and write-up, it decently describes it. It isnt hard if you can do minor electrical. If you have questions be more detailed. Once I came up with the idea, it was easy.
Look at the pictures above. You will need to purchase 2 different types of electrical plugs. The first type are the flat female type pictured above. They will be used to plug on the back of the headlight housing. I had to cut some in half to make room.
The other type of plug is a round male plug, they fit perfectly in the cars stock headlight plug. The picture didnt come out very good. Then you use enough wire between the two plugs so you can remove the headlight and install easily.
You will need to use a test light to test each terminal on the headlight and the stock headlight plug so you know where to plug each electrical plug for parking lights, low beams, and high beams. I hope that helps a little more. Where do you live? I am in southern california. I wouldnt mind helping.

New member and first time posting on this forum. I have bought an A4 1997 and it came with this same conversion done already but with the HID projectors. I'm having an issue with the DRL having too low of a voltage and when I switch the lows on the bulbs won't ignite do you know if and how this maybe fixed? Not sure if your running halogen of HID headlight so I thought I would ask.
Thanks man
