Tinting Tail Lights

Looking for some advice on the best route to take when tinting my tail lights. A local shop will spray tint the inside for $100 any shade I want or I can save a lot of money and tint them with film myself. What is the best route to take? If I wanted to spray tint them myself, is it a pain to take the tail lights off? (I have an 06 a4, 2.0T)

what about nightshades? it's a spray tint - never used it myself but from what I understand it's like spray paint - use thin coats until you get the look your going for.

might check local laws first though...still want to pass inspection...

Order a set of Hella tinted tail lights. Hella is the OEM supplier, so they fit like, well, OEM.

I have a pair on order right now from Parts4Euro.com for my RS6, but alas, I can't find the status on them and can't get a response back. The side marker lights came right away, but the tails? Who knows.

Do a search on Hella tail lights and maybe you'll find what you're after.

From what I've understood from my buddies, nightshade is really easy to work with. I've had the tailights out before, and they're surprisingly not bad at all to work with. My buddy's TT was the same situation. The covers need to come off, and sand down with a fine grit sand paper. Spray. Repeat. until you get the desired tint. After that, sand again (not much at all) and spray a clear coat. The point of the sanding from what I've read and understand is so that the spray will actually 'absorb' into the tailight lense itself, thus giving it a "tinted" look. Understand or am I just really stupid?
