"90J Type Service"???

I have a 97 B5 A4 1.8TQ with 5sp manual and 107K on it. Stock turbo. Just took it to the stealer after my ignition switch spring broke, leaving the key in the start position instead of popping it back to run for about 10 min while the engine was running. Basically I started the car, started to pull out when I realized my headlights were out and turnsignals weren't working (although highbeams worked at first if I held'em on). Parked it and left it running for a few while I checked fuses- all intact. Feared electrical issues and shut it off, then other electrical accessories began to lose power sequentially, windshield wipers, power windows, etc. Dealer said my starter was fried (big suprise) and first tried to charge me $900 for that, saying it wasn't covered under the ignition switch safety recall. After some arguments, managed to get them to fix that free along with the ignition switch, though they still got me for $500 to replace alternator harness and S terminal wire and connector ($300 labor!!). claimed insulation was dryrotted and metal exposed not melted.

Writeup said "engines feels as if carbon is built up on the back of the valves it is in need of 90J type service".

Anyone know what 90J type service is? searches turned up nothing.

What can I do about apparent carbon buildup?

Thanks...

90k? Like the 90,000 mile service? Maybe they are saying you are overdue.

RE: "90J Type Service"???

hey that's a thought. you're probably right that it was supposed to read 90K because there were a bunch of typos in the service write up and they did mention that there was no service record of the T-belt being done too (because I bought the car from a VW tech who told me he did it himself). The J button is right next to the K one too. Thanks, didn't even think of that...
